Our Pitch

Image
Pitch 1: A girl keeps making new friends, little do they know she holds a big secret.  Pitch 2: A man moves to a small town, and starts a new job at the local police station. Pitch 1 is a practical choice for our group. We have access to the said friends that would be needed to film. Also there is more wiggle room for the first pitch because the secret isn't revealed yet. There are many pros to this pitch but there are a few cons. The pitch can appear to be generic at first glance. We would not want to have a movie that follows a very basic storyline. But we can trust with our group that this movie would not follow the typical movie conventions.  Pitch 2 is also a reasonable choice for our group. One of our group members lives in a small town, so the setting is ideal. However, there are some cons in this pitch, including the fact that the character is a police officer, and there is a chance we could misrepresent the police force. We would not want to offend anyone with ...

My Group

Image
For this project, I will be switching things up and working with some different group members. I will be working with my 3 friends, Dara, Parker, and Siena. These three people are not only people that I like, But good, responsible workers who take school seriously. I think we will be a good fit for this project. Dara, whom I worked with last time, is a very good editor and also a good actor! When we did not have another person to act in our last project, she stepped up and took on the role. This is a great example of her responsibility and doing things to help out, even if she did not initially want to. Parker is a very good filmer and knows how to move cameras to reveal elements that would not be so obvious to others. She is good at critical thinking and determining what angles we should film scenes at. Her talent in this department is very useful for obvious reasons. She will be a great help in this project. Siena is our creative side of this project. She is a very artsy creativ...

Intro Blog

Hello, my name is Violet Roberts. I am 15 years old and am a sophomore in highschool. I have learned so much throughout this year regarding media. I am very excited to begin my final project and use the tools I have developed over the year. I have a brother who is 18 years old and in his senior year, and he also has furthered my knowledge in this course because he took it before I did. I live with him, my mom and my dad. I also have some pets! I have two dogs and 7 cats. I have many interests in life, such as soccer, theatre, and piano. I like doing these things because I am good at them and they make me happy. I joined this course because I was excited to learn more about film making and its components. And I must add, I have not been disappointed! My family watches TV shows and movies together some nights. It is very entertaining to look for things that I have learned so much about and point them out to them. I also like identifying things like lighting choices that further the ...

Project Blog

Music Video: This project was a great learning experience. I think back to my last project, the commercial, and can see how far I have improved. The fact that I have learned how to adjust music clips, how to add filters, and film scenes more efficiently really shows my improvement over this time. I had a really good time doing this project, too. I actually had a lot of fun filming the scenes and working with my friends. I had fun with this group but I will be changing groups next time. I learned that I should scout out who I will be working with in advance. I like all of my group members, but we did not all work super well with eachother. Regardless, it was a fantastic project. I am ready for our final one to put together everything I have and will continue to learn.

Time to edit

Image
We had all the pieces of our music video. Now, we just had to put them together. Mila and Nicole were our main editors for this project. When we were all together, Nicole and I would press play on the music and the video at the same time to see if they would sync. It was a painfully slow process. Adjusting the music by just one millisecond doesn’t seem like a huge change, but I guarantee you it is. We would add in longer transitions to get the timing right. I would chime in occasionally to point out that we needed to add more music to a certain point. One of the main challenges with the editing was editing the music. Our song has a part in the middle where there is music that doesn’t fit our video. Also, it has a bit of profanity there. We had to cut that part out of the music and skip to the part we keep. This seems simple enough, right? Well I figured we had to keep the transition from one part of the music to the next clean. I wanted it to seem like there was no cut. There were...

Finishing the filming

Image
Today I continued with filming. After practice that my groupmate Dara and I both have, we both went to her house to film the rest of the video. I had my brother Cole, our main actor, come with us. We started by filming the parts in the flashbacks. We did this first to preserve the daylight. We figured we could film the later parts when it was dark out because the majority of it is inside. I filmed a few shots of Dara and Cole walking together, sitting together, even spinning. They were all filmed relatively close to eachother, but in different enough locations that the audience would not be able to tell. I picked the clips where I though they had the most chemistry. One of them includes a part where they are sitting on the steps together, and Cole got dog poop on his shoe. I actually love this clip because it seems the most natural, as Dara is laughing and Cole is flailing and laughing trying to get it off. Then I filmed the part where he goes to visit her at her house. We used th...
