How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does
it represent social groups or issues?
Today’s world is filled with unnecessary negativity. Our
commercial challenges this social issue by showing the spread of joy.
Literally, our final post-it note is revealed to say, “spread joy”. I think it
is important to show that even small acts of kindness or caring can turn someone’s
day around for the better. It is conventional for people to not really talk or
interact with strangers, even if you see that they are not doing well mentally.
This commercial goes against this convention through displaying acts of
kindness to people that you don’t even know, and not trying to get some sort of
credit out of it.
2. How does your product engage with
audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
Our product engages with the audience by depicting how our product enhances people’s day. Post-its are a commonly used thing. Whether it is a reminder on your refrigerator or a nice note in your kid’s lunchbox, there is always a way to use it. Not just that, but virtually anyone can use them. Because of this, it engages a very broad audience. It could be an ad on a televised program such as the morning news to target adults and parents, or before a Youtube video on toys to target kids. Either way, it reaches an audience that could use our product.

How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
My production skills definitely improved throughout this
project. In the beginning, I was new to filming and editing. Through advice
from my group and research, I found ways to become better. Not only did I just
improve with regular things such as having good lighting, but researching
different methods of filming and camera angles increased my knowledge and
abilities within filming. As far as editing, I certainly got better. Simple
things like cuts and fading was near impossible, but now I know how to do them.
Working with overlaying music has made me more confident with editing things
outside of this project. Overall, my production skills have gotten much
stronger throughout this project.

How did you
integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
These
days, smart phones are very versatile and can be used for many things. Because of
that, we really only needed a smart phone to complete all of our filming,
editing, and producing. Using an iPhone 11 to film was a choice we made due to
its superior camera quality over other phones such as the iPhone X. I filmed
the commercial on my phone and then airdropped it to Mila’s phone so that she
could use the app iMovie to edit all of the clips together and to form smooth transitions.
From there, we were finished, and only had to use two people’s phones.
